The Pepsi September Grant Vote starts today. This is my final hurrah! Custer's last stand, although I hope for a better outcome. :-)

We are in two categories this month. Our Katz Krusade 250K and Whisker Kisses 50K.

Many groups are putting in multiple ideas. Most are winning multiple times. We have come close in 250K so figured we could hopefully benefit by being in the 50K also.

First some great news! We won the Pepsi/Safeway 15K grant. Just received confirmation and the paperwork today. No comes the fun part.

This win is a strong motivator for the Pepsi Main Contest that just begun for September. Info on this shortly.

Pepsi/Safeway Grant Contest - Finalist

Some good news finally from the Pepsi Grant Contests. We finished in the #1 slot in voting for the Pepsi/Safeway Education Grant Contest. Just awaiting confirmation. Then comes the verification and paperwork process.

Thank you to all who supported us. The animals will thank you even more.

We also just filed our Articles of Incorporation for our Kritter Koalition Non-Profit Status.

Well the 250K August campaign is not faring very well after finishing #4 in June and #5 in July. But not to fret. We are entered in a 15K Pepsi/Safeway contest beginning Aug.11 for a two week voting period. The top 3 receive the grant. More information on how and where to vote in the next few days.

New Rescues

This has been a busy week. A solid black feral cat gave birth to 1 calico kitten in a person's garage. The people managed to keep lock up the garage to keep the mom and baby in place. Upon receiving the call, we went with carrier, gloves and food in hand. With patience and by placing the newborn kitten in the crate, we managed to catch the mom. They are both doing well. Mom slowly calming down. She is being a good mother so hand feeding the baby is so far not necessary. The baby is fat and happy.

A few days later we received a call from a person who had two 6 week old kittens and could no longer take care of them. We took them in. They are brother and sister. Both are long haired. The girl is jet black and the boy is black with white toes. They are happy, healthy and full of energy. They should easily find a loving permanent home.

Well, we finished #5. #4 last month and #5 this month. Getting so close and not getting there is so very frustrating. So on to August we go. Lastly, having finished in the top 10 for 3 straight months, we just submitted a version of our 250K idea for the 50K category for September. Figure with all the effort put out by all, if we don't succeed in the 250K, 50K is not too bad. :-)

May Voting has begun and we are off to our best start yet. Last month we started at rank #13 out of over 280 submissions. We got as high as #9. This month we started at #6 after the first day of voting. In the 250K category you must be in the TOP TWO to receive the Grant.

Louisiana Oil Spill

The Louisiana Oil Spill is just the latest in the devastating effects of oil drilling. When will we ever learn that there is no safe way to drill. Innocent wildlife pays for our ignorance, not to mention the men who were killed in the blast and the devastating effects on their families.

I have offered our services to the wildlife rescue effort in regards to the Gulf Spill. Members of my team and I are ready to respond throughout May if called upon.

April Pepsi Grant Contest - Katz Krusade

We did well in March gaining over 60 spots in the rankings over the last 2 weeks, finishing at 34. While not in the top 2 winning grant spots, we did qualify to be automatically included in the April contest.

So the process starts all over again beginning April 1st.

Based on what I observed in both the February and March contests, I have a strategy that should put us in the top contenders from the beginning giving us the best opportunity to qualify for the grant.

Pepsi arbitrarily ranks the ideas from 1 to whatever on day 1. Those fortunate enough to be put into the top spots appear to remain at the top the whole month with few exceptions. So the key is to either be lucky and be placed at the top or to gain enough quick early votes to jump near the top during the first two days of voting. It appears easier to maintain a top position than to gain ground from the rank and file. Let's not rely on luck.

So once again I ask you for your votes. Here is a step by step plan for Victory!

1) Voting begins at 6am EST (3am PST) April 1st. Please vote as early as conveniently possible on both April 1st and 2nd. Our early placement is key and because of the time difference East Coast ideas and voters have an early advantage.

2) Please set a reminder to vote daily. Every vote is extremely important.

3) If you have a VALID second or third email account (under a different name and/or different email address) please register and vote using these accounts also. Over the course of the month, this would double/triple the vote count.

4) Get 2 or more new friends, family or co-workers to get on board. If you use Twitter and Facebook or other social networking media, please tweet, post and blog as often as you're willing and able.

5) The last week momentum surge. Every idea is powering votes at the end to gain ground. An extra push at the end will be necessary to either hold on to our position or gain the few spots needed to win. Finding that extra person or people to cast votes who have not yet participated.

We need your help. More accurately we need your VOTE. Voting begins Monday, March 1st.

Pepsi through their www.refresheverything.com campaign is awarding grants each month to submitted ideas. The grant categories include $5,000, $25,000, $50,000 and $250,000.

We submitted our Katz Krusade project for the $250,000 grant which will be entered into the March campaign.

All winners of the grants are determined by votes. The top 10 vote getters in the $5,000, $25,000, and $50,000 categories receive the grants but only the TOP TWO vote getters receive the grant money in the $250,000 category.

Establishing an animal refuge requires lots of time and passion, but it also takes lots of money. The Pepsi Refresh Everything campaign gives us a long awaited opportunity to gain the seed money necessary to embark on our life long dream, beginning with our Katz Krusade.

You can register for voting at www.refresheverything.com. Click on the Sign In link and the Registration Window/Sign In window should pop up. Enter your email address and a password. Once registered you can vote for your top 10 favorite ideas every day throughout March but only one vote per idea. Once registered it only takes a few minutes to vote and there is no cost for registering.

Please VOTE for us everyday beginning March 1st. Every vote is crucial. The best way to find us after logging in would be to Click on ALL CATAGORIES or the catagory NEIGHBORHOODS. Then click on $250,000. Then scan down and click LOAD MORE if necessary till you see Katz Krusade.

New Rescue

It is just unfathomable what some people are capable of. A few weeks ago we rescued another kitten dumped in a bag on the side of the road in the pouring rain. The kitten is doing well. Gaining weight and slowly developing trust. However the process is a bit more difficult because as it turns out, this kitten is also deaf.

Help us save the lives of cats and kittens by voting for our Katz Krusade Refuge.

Some of our resident rescues

Chance was found dumped in the middle of the street unable to walk and pregnant. Three days later she gave birth to 4 kittens
of which 3 survived. Here she is nursing Sigmund, OMG and Pudge.

Charity was caught with a rabies pole by a humane officer
who was about to put her down on the spot stating she was vicious. Actually she was giving birth at that very
moment; one newborn in the mud the other in the birthing
process. We luckily happened by as this was going on
and rescued her and her kittens from the humane officer.

This is Mugwai, one of Charity's two kittens; the other named
Kim Chee. Both were bottle fed and despite their traumatic
start to life, both are happy, healthy kittens.

Every day stray cats and kittens are starving, sick and/or injured or killed by cars and animals. Every day stray cats breed adding to the problem. Lack of funds especially during difficult economic times prevents may pet owners from getting involved in helping strays fearing they may get stuck with the bill or animal knowing they can't provide on-going care.

Kritter Kountry's Katz Krusade will develop a permanent cat refuge providing a permanent home where cats can roam, play and sleep in complete safety, indoors and out. All medical care including spay and neutering will be provided. Adoption provided if possible.

We can make a big difference in our communities by providing a safe haven for stray and feral cats and kittens by getting them off the streets, by giving then proper health care and by reducing pet overpopulation. Community members can take an active role and feel good about saving a stray from an uncertain future without worrying about financial burden and providing long term care.

Project Goals:

2. Provide on-going medical care including spaying and neutering.

3. To engage communities in rescuing stray cats.

4. Work behaviorally with all feline residents.
